Oct 05, 2014  My bad, I put Stone in the mod description and is Ember in the game, the Transmutation Ember comes in levels around your own, there are level 1, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100. The result is the average lvl of the items used, so you can get items in any level range.

The upcoming for Crate Entertainment's action-RPG Grim Dawn will introduce Transmutation, an incredibly handy feature that will allow you to transform a piece of set gear into another piece from the same set or a random set. The new explains how that will work.

Pre-ramble:Neither “Flashlight” nor “Diablo Lite,” this game is a single-player RPG all on its own. There seems to be a slight departure as of late from the hardcore, sitting in your parents’ basement with your amazing sound/video setup gamer to the casual, would-probably-pick-a-weapon-based-on-how-cool/pretty-it-is gamer. Sure, there is still a franchise or 10 out there that prides itself on catering to the “hardcore” amongst usBut after the DS, DS Lite, and the Wii, let’s face facts – playing video games isn’t as nerdy as it used to be. And thank GOD, because I’m still as nerdy as I used to be and a little social acceptance would be welcome.Introduction:is probably a better source for a succinct, and more importantly, interesting introduction. My take on the game is that it takes the RPG genre’s classic dungeon-crawler engine, spices it up with a few extras desired by the masses, and draws you in despite the “Been there, done that” feel of Diablo and Fate.Quick run-down of the available classes:Destroyer – Big guy, mouth-breather, definitely looks like your typical melee type. Sword and board or dual-wielding of any weapon.Vanquisher – The scantily clad chick, who in the trailer has dual-pistols. Angelina Jolie, much?.drool.

Ah, yes, (we’re back) but, uh, she’s also rather rogue/amazon like. The ranged DPS (damage per second) gal.Alchemist – WIZARD.

Yes, he’s an alchemist. But does he have a “Transmute” spell? Does he clap his hands together, form a cool circle with arcane symbols, out of which pops a weapon/vehicle/stone pillar/super-deformed character?

So even if my Alchemist is named Edward Elric and his dog is Alphonse, he is a shrimp wizard. He casts spells that do more damage than any of his weapons ever could.Gameplay:Personal opinion is that it’s better than Fate, but of course still not as good as Diablo. However, it never aspires to be Diablo, but does borrow heavily from the Diablo engine. You pick a class (one of 3, so more like the original Diablo than Diablo 2) and you kill monsters; you pick up quests that tell you to kill certain monsters and you hoard your treasures in your stash. Something to note here is that there are two stashes – a personal stash and a shared stash, a la Guild Wars. Any character you make can add to the shared stash, so if your Vanquisher picks up a great spell for your Alchemist to use, you can drop it off and share the loot.“Lootris,” as Penny-Arcade so wittily calls it, is nonexistent here. Each item takes up one slot so it’s not as though you have to rearrange your inventory much to carry stuff.

Your pet can also carry stuff (can be a dog or cat, you choose when you make the character). Pet control/interface is a lot like Fate – you can feed your pet a certain fish and it will transform for a predetermined period of time into some creature that’s hella more powerful than the base form. Pets can also learn spells (spells drop as scrolls that you can learn or your pet can learn) that they use effectively to fight enemies.Pets can be sent to town to unload the loot and return with gold for their master,.

However, I strongly advice against sending them with magical or rare items. 4 of magical items or rare items (all 4 have to be the same kind, either 4 magical or 4 rare, but not 2 rare, 2 magical, etc) taken to the transmute guy (a TRUE alchemist, M I RITE?) will yield gems. 4 magical (green items) give you cracked, 4 rare give you dull. 2 of the same kind of gem (2 cracked skulls) will give you the next level up (1 dull skull, in this case). So loot you can’t equip or don’t need to equip is nonetheless important!Bosses are easy to spot, they are larger than the average model (just imagine a certain monster model type hit with ).

Harder to kill, of course. Rather than end-of-the-stage bosses, they’re more like the special monsters in Diablo that had names and usually dropped nice stuff. In Torchlight, they drop a LOT of stuff, but not always super nice stuff. It’s the same left click to attack gameplay as most RPGs.

I feel like I end up walking instead of attacking more times than with Diablo or Fate. Thankfully, if you’re attacking a monster in a group, once you manage to click on one, just hold down the left-click and you’ll keep attacking.

Even after the targeted monster dies, you’ll auto-target the nearest monster in the vicinity of where you clicked. It’s the same for melee or ranged. Of course, ranged is safer because you can hold the shift key down as you attack to not move. Melee’s a bit tougher because obviously the monsters MOVE so holding down shift is not possible. In terms of addiction, it’s definitely addictive. The simplicity of the gameplay is the real beauty here, you can finish a level and decide to do one of the portal quests, where you’re in a side dungeon you can’t town-portal from.

But it’s only one or two levels so it’s no big deal. You can buy a Map Scroll that also generates a random new dungeon to explore. Or you can switch to another character without worrying about losing progress – you hit esc, go to the title, and your character will freeze right where they are, even if they’re not in town. A VERY nice change from Diablo and Fate.Being able to walk away whenever gives this game such strong appeal.

I’m not stuck grinding levels away in a dungeon. On the other hand, it’s not so simple that I don’t even care to play – you want the next drop, you want the next level up to test out the new skillsProblems/Issues:There is a known bug with the bard’s quest that takes place on level 3 of the main dungeon. You are told to kill “The Overseer” but if you just pushed through the levels without returning to town much, you may accidentally kill him first before you even get the quest. There’s a ton of information about it on the forums, I did manage to sort that out and it didn’t leave me stranded, but that’s pretty annoying that the creators didn’t take care of that. Some of the stuff is confusing, despite the simplicity of the interface – I didn’t understand how to level up a learned spell. For instance, you can learn “Heal All” level 1, 2, or 3. However, each of those spells can be leveled up to 11. When you learn the spell it says “1/11 rank” and shows you the benefits of the higher ranks.

Torchlight

So you wonder, how do I level it?Well, you have to actually level up “Charm Magic Mastery,” “Defensive Magic Mastery,” etc. Every character can learn these skills and they will boost any spell that follows that characteristic. So for “Heal All” I’d have to level up “Charm Magic Mastery” and then it would show the appropriate ranks (5/11 or 11/11 or whatever depending on how many skill points were allocated).

Plus side is that your dog also benefits from this, so choose wisely. The shared stash is too small. TOO SMALL I say! What if you have 10 characters?

That shared stash should be much bigger!Final Glimpse:For addicting gameplay coupled with a simple, easy-to-learn style, I have to give massive points. It feels like a more gratifying, graphics-intensive Tower Defense game. You can pick it up when you want or put it down when you want; you can play as seriously as you want or as whimsically as you want. Games shouldn’t control you, you should control the game. However, I dislike how I’m almost forced to waste skill points early in the game because the late-game spells are AWESOME but in order to survive the onslaught of beasts I have to settle for the crappy, wouldn’t-do-enough-damage-at-level 10 spells to help me get. There should be a quest to re-arrange your skill points just once and once only.

That would be worth it, many poorly created characters would be spared!Final score will have to be an 8.5.-0.5 for some minor irritations like the quest of the Overseer, that seems like something fairly simple to resolve so they really should have checked that before release-1 because while it’s a great game, I don’t feel like it’s a real, full-sized game. I honestly feel like it’s exceptional for a browser game, but as a real, install-on-your-computer game, I feel it’s a bit shy of a full cup (Brimming over with 1337, in case you wondered). Still, it’s amazingly addictive, I found myself with 4 characters after the first 3 hours playing. I just wanted to try all the classes and I feel that I semi-screwed up my Vanquisher so I wanted to rebuild her. Where does the time go?
