I have a weird issue that is affecting two different computers. I haven't been able to locate any discussion on this issue, let alone find a solution on the whole Internet, EVEN on Spiceworks!:)When my system goes to sleep or I put it to sleep, I will often wake it to find that all my open applications have been closed.

There is no indication that Windows update has installed any updates and done a restart. I have looked hard at the power settings to no avail. Anyway, hibernating shouldn't shut down my apps.Sometimes this happens after a long time or overnight, but at other times, I can close the keyboard or hit the power button. That was my first thought, too, but my settings are pretty standard. I can't think of a setting that would force apps to close, anyway. Even hibernate (which I set to 4200 minutes on one of these machines, as a test) shouldn't close the apps.Maybe take a look at the BIOS settings. Or even better the MEBX setting.Dell and HPs and some Lenovo's have some squirrelly settings in there with the i217lm network cards that have caused all kinds of problems with PC's since the last round of updates.

Might be a sleep or wake issue causing A ripple effect. I think Evan7191 and NathM are on the right track. The restart on these things is so fast that I didn't even consider that it was rebooting after a crash, though that should have been an obvious tack to take.

On the SP4, I am getting a critical error, event ID 41, related to kernel power. This is a stock image, with everything Windows Update wants to install installed.I think I'll give the hibernate vs. Sleep idea a try on the SP3, but I will continue to research the problem resolution on the SP4, then I can apply it to the other and see if it works there, too.Evan, how did you resolve it when you encountered it? I am tempted to try a full refresh, but I really don't want to have to reinstall everything.
