The MOD squad. Buying an ex Army Defender. Just lately I am seeing a lot of freshly demobbed ex-military Land Rovers in the workshop, mainly to fit TDi engines and/or power steering. A couple of months ago I had five in at the same time, and the place looked like a REME workshop circa 1995, but less tidy. Mar 13, 2009  I have been asked to show how to fit reverse lights to a Series Land Rover, such that they illuminate automatically, not needing the driver to operate any switches. Provision was made for this on all later SIIIs, with suffix D and later gear boxes, but it is a simple job to fit. Warning lights for hill descent control, traction control and cruise control could also light up. Land Rover dealers have been instructed to install new switches of the same design in March and then to replace them in May when a re-engineered unit becomes available.

Towerfall save file 1000. Thanks a lot. Have also found that it is available on a junction box which I need to look for however I think I might just bring a cable from the reversing light forward as I have to run the video cable in. I'm also going to install a switch to switch live on the line manually just in case I need to use it other than when reversing. I have also found that the handbrake line on the unit expects an earth so that video will work when driving forward (for my front camera) so have grounded that to the chassis.

It is easy enough to wire up. Not sure about 2a but there is a (tapped?) hole in the gearstick bracket that takes a switch. You then need to add a flexible angled piece of metal or plastic to the reverse spring bracket to push on the switch. Wire up a feed from ignition otherwise when you park on a hill and leave it in reverse you get a flat battery.DOH!Trouble is s3 brake switches are pretty horrible to set up and need constant fiddling so I'm looking out for a better switch as I've had to readjust mine a few times (both brakes and reverse light) over the past year. Brake lights worked before setting off to MOT but not when I got there!I'll try and remember to take a picture next time I'm up at garage while the floor is up!
